amandine dot decker at loria dot fr

Amandine Decker (she/her) is a PhD student pursuing a double degree in computer science and computational linguistics at the University of Lorraine (Semagramme team, LORIA, France) and the University of Gothenburg (CLASP, Sweden). Her research focuses on modelling topics in pathological conversations with an emphasis on characterising dialogue and variations in topical structure across different settings. She is supervised by Maxime Amblard and Ellen Breitholtz. She holds a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science applied to Humanities with option Cognitive Science and a MSc in Natural Language Processing from the IDMC. Her research interests include natural language processing, dialogue management, and changes in dialogue practices in the context of digital communication.

My paper Off the Hamster Wheel: Rethinking Dialogue Research through a Meta-Analysis of the ACL Anthology 2024 was accepted at LREC 2026! I presented it on May 13 in Palma, Spain.

I was embassador for the ‘Sciences: a Women's job’ event organised by the Women & Sciences association at the Faculty of Science and Technology (University of Lorraine) in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy to promote careers in science to female high school and secondary school students. I talked about my academic path and my research to several small groups of students in a speed meeting format.

I was invited to the Cognition and Language seminar at the IDMC (Université de Lorraine, Nancy) where I talked about conversation and the different forms it can take across settings and (non-)human agents.

I was invited by the ENSAD in Nancy in the context of their AI day to organise a workshop around the topic of ‘dialogue and conversational AI’ where I presented some of my work to a group of students and teachers from the school.

I gave a talk at the Questions and the Discourse workshop organised by Valentin Richard to celebrate his PhD defense.

I took part in the ‘Scientific Game Jam’ organised by the Féru des Sciences and the University of Lorraine. During this 48h hackathon I co-developped a video game inspired from my thesis topic with Vincent Tourneur, PhD student in the Semagramme team at LORIA, four students from the IUT of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, and Augustine Amet from the ENSAD in Nancy.

I gave a talk at the CLASP Seminar where I presented a meta-analysis of the papers on Dialogue in the ACL Anthology 2024.
